"Our Generation" by THE GEEK X VRV

A new world order

Over the course of the history of civilization, things like crops, technologies, and religions took hundreds of years to truly establish themselves in their new homes once intercontinentally transplanted. Nowadays, with the help of the Internet, new concepts travel across oceans at light speed, and make their presence known in a matter of weeks. One such concept, the electro-soul genre, has hopped its way across the pond from America to Europe in the blink of an eye, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the result. Inspired by American pioneers like GRiZ, Gramatik, and Pretty Lights, French duo The Geek x Vrv are planting their flag in the fertile soil of the genre that has exploded onto the scene over the last couple years. Their new track “Our Generation” is a classic electro-soul piece that bleeds a can-do attitude and groovy positivity. 

Although it starts off with an aggressive saxophone and synth riff that sounds more like the intro to an up-beat brass band song, “Our Generation” quickly settles into its thumping hip-hop influenced percussive heartbeat and deeps breaths of bass guitar, punctuated by silky saxophone stabs and occasional appearances of noodling electric guitar. A deep soulful voice continually reminds us that we, the people, have the power and responsibility to change to world, and bring us all out of these dark times we find ourselves in and into an age where good vibes reign supreme. While a relatively simply track, both lyrically and rhythmically, “Our Generation” does exactly what it intends to: put some shake in your hips, some shimmy in your shoulders, and a smile on your face.
